Hong Kong

New Year's Eve was celebrated on Tuesday night here, instead of Sunday night in Shanghai. We still don't know why the dates were different. We had a window table at the Chinese restaurant in our hotel that was the best front row seats we could have had. You can see the hoards of people on the walk way to view the fireworks. It was chilly out, and we were happy to be inside enjoying a fabulous meal and dinner show.
The boats were being held back by a police line. We heard later that one of the boats launching the fireworks caught fire at the end. It was interesting to see the 30 minutes of fireworks that were half hidden from the smoke that didn't clear. They kept going and going, the smoke getting thicker and thicker. The clouds just lit up with color.
There was a gorgeous breakfast buffet every morning with all the goodies one could ever desire, but I had to get a picture of the fresh honey being offered! Dripping off the comb into a bowl. We decided we are going to be bee farmers when we get back to the States!
The girls and I were swimming in the pool when all of a sudden the clouds started to blow away. Before you knew it we had blue sky! We ran upstairs, got dressed, grabbed Ridley and ran for the Peak, the top of Hong Kong. The taxi driver took us to the top rather than to the tram, which turned out to be a good idea since we later saw the line for the tram circled two blocks.

This is the tram. All the seats are facing uphill since it is too steep to face downhill.

Storey recording our departure from the terminal.
Where did the blue sky go??? As quickly as the clouds blew away they blew back in. Island life.
It is hard to capture how steeply we were tilted. The buildings looked like they were leaning at 45 degree angles.

A fun quick adventure. We were able to grab a little lunch and ice cream at the top. Made it all worth while.
