These pictures cannot do justice to the beauty of the night. Storey finished swimming at 4:15 on Tuesday. Paige was at an away soccer game. Storey and I hopped in a cab and headed to the Party House which is an 11 year old shop for expats catering to their every party/holiday wish. Storey's birthday is today, and she is having two friends over to spend the night tomorrow (Friday) night, so we needed to do a little preparation. While there we were able to pick up a perfect witch costume for Halloween for Storey - broom and all. When we finally emerged from this treasure trove of western delights it had fallen into night. This seems to happen in a matter of minutes here. We took a taxi back to school to wait for Paige's arrival from the soccer game. School was magical. The full, yellow harvest moon (I am being so generous in conveying the moon's fantastic glow without really explaining the full reason for its glory! We are in China!) is barely seen in this photo, coming up behind Storey, over the soccer field and between the trees and buildings. It really was spectacular. Storey and I had to stop frequently to oooh and ahhhh over the wonder of it. Storey played on the playground while other kids were running around and screams and cheers were wafting down from the 5th floor gymnasium where a volleyball tournament was happening. Paige's bus finally made it through the evening traffic to arrive at 6:10. Then the real fun began. Trying to flag down a taxi at rushhour. We have become quite patient with flapping our arm out to entice an empty taxi to stop. There just aren't empty taxi's at this time of night. But, we only had to wait about 15 minutes, and with the traffic, we got home about 40 minutes later, starving and ready to sit down to our prepared feast. Life really isn't too bad!
